We are still campaining for a new building for us to move from our present building to a new purpose built gym club and recently held 2 open days to show some local officials just what amazing skills our gymnasts have. These were very successful and those that attended were pleasantly surprised at just how good the gymnasts were. If any one would like to help in any way they can contact our club chairman , Steve Hall via our website www.redcargymclub.org
REDCAR GYMNASTICS CLUB RGC was established in 1966 by Mr Jack Grey who is life president. We are a voluntary sports club and all coaches and helpers give up their time free of charge. Even though we are a small club we deliver a high quality of training and this is recognised by the GymMark accreditation, which takes a great deal of effort to obtain, this basically means that we are recognised for being a safe, effective and child friendly club that young people and their parents can trust.
We are going from strength to strength with our competition results too. We are amongst the best in the region and we have also had a gymnast (Rebecca Boal) represent the North Of England at the National championships that were held in April, this year. She came 22nd overall and her bars score placed her 11th for that apparatus!! Our youngest gymnasts able to compete, did well too earlier this year at the Sport for all Competition, finishing 2nd (Emily Hodgson) joint 3rd (Rebekah Chapman and Alice Briggs) and team Gold. The Grades Competitions held at Newcastle were also a great success. This is due to the huge committment made by both the coaches and the gymnasts.
The boys section is proving to be very popular as well. They too are flying the flag for Redcar at comps.
We also are preparing to welcome our American friends, a group of coaches and gymnasts from Maryland in an exchange that has been going on for a number of years now. This will take place in July/August.
We are currently looking to move from our premises at Kirkleatham Street to a new purpose built building simply because of the vast number of club members we have, our building is far too small and if we want to continue to produce a service to the children of Redcar and surrounding areas then we need to raise funds. We have a 'Buy a Brick Appeal' in which we are asking locals to donate either £2, £5 or £10 in exchange for an entry in a book which will be displayed in the foyer of the proposed new gym. We are pleading with local residents and businesses to help us and donate to this appeal as we feel that a facility like this would be an asset in the community. Gymnastics is a very popular sport and in this day and age (of computers etc) I feel that we should encourage our youngsters to parcipitate. If anyone would like to donate or like further advice regarding helping the club to re locate then could they please ring Steve Hall, our Chairman, on 01642 495711.
