RENOVATE AREA OF LAND
An area of land around Norfolk Close and Troutbeck Road has been revitalised, thanks to Students from Sacred Heart School and the Aspire Project. The site was visited by Hertel who were promoting the project, and agreed with Coast & Country Housing that this was the ideal site..
Aspire is a scheme for companies to engage with school leavers and connect with the future work force. This project was for students to take part in revitalising an area, and bringing it back into use for children to play near their homes.
The students visited the area to see what the work would entail and what materials would be required. After which, they picked a team leader and formed groups responsible for each task, including design, painting, planting and even catering as the workers had to be fed!
The design was made up by the students, being a raised flower bed at the Mersey Road end with plants that have a low maintenance. Paving stones all round, the central area grassed with a plinth in the centre with a bird bath on top.
From the 7th – 11th August with support from Coast &Country Housing this area was cleared, the walls around were painted cream and the fencing painted with wood paint in brown.
Before any work could start it was essential to remove tons of rubbish from the top saving the good soil for the raised flower bed.

All the area had to be prepared for new turf to be laid, this was hard work being that previous weeks the weather had been exceptionally hot, it also entailed the removal all the sharp objects and levelling out for new turf.

Thanks also to Redcar Fire Station for attending and watering all the area, as the ground was really hard and dry due to all the good weather during the summer months.
